Midwest Nights (Ongoing)

Ever since my first trip to Michigan in 2018, where I met my wife’s parents for the first time, I have been in love with the Midwest. I began the project exploring my wife’s hometown of Saline, and I have slowly started to expand my project to more areas of the state, most notably the Bavarian-style town of Frankenmuth.

On my trips, one of the biggest differences I found between here and the UK is that nobody seems to walk in Michigan, every time I have walked into the town centre, the streets have been empty, any time of day or not and that baffled me. There were so many places to explore and enjoy and everyone seemed to just drive past paying no mind.

What intrigued me even further was that for a state that seemed to walk very little, they lit up every street, every house and every building, not sure who they were lighting it for. Nethertheless, I loved it, it created such a beautiful and cinematic aesthetic, it felt like I was on a movie set, no matter where I went. Bloody love this place.
This project is still in its early days and I will be returning in June 2023 to continue capturing more scenes in Michigan and hopefully Ohio too.
